Hey ya'll,

I just traded a Wichita Sam for a very prim Daddy Mojo.  It's # 039 a very basic (dare I say crude?) 3 string fretless.  I'm just wondering 1) if anybody had any older Daddy Mojo's 2) how old # 039 might be and 3) what would anyone like to offer me for this piece of CBG history...

I wish all beginning builders could see this one.  Everyone... and I mean everyone starts at the beginning.  Daddy Mojo is one of the primere CBG builders today, but this build reveals that in the beginning we all (even DM ) go thru a learning curve.  Don't get frustrated that you can't build your 3rd or 30th like someone who has built 100's and has been doing it for years.... Stay with it, it will come.

I'm traveling now, but will add a complete slide show on Sunday evening...

the best,

Wichita Sam

OK, As promised, here's some pics.

and here's a complete slideshow... http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj317/WichitaSam/Daddy%20Mojo%20... It is probably a 1 in 1000 chance to trade for a piece of CBG History. I was lucky to do so. I'm posting this to encourage new builders. If you look at this early Daddy Mojo(9th or 10th? since Lenny says he started his numbering system at # 030) , you will see many of the things that most early builders struggle with: headstock, fit and finish, tailpiece/bridge detail and yes, even playability. But I would offer two points. First when Daddy Mojo was doing this he didn't have the wealth of resources that we have here on the Nation, at the CigarBoxGuitarBuilder Yahoo Forum and at the Handmade Music Clubhouse. Very few people were building at this time and even fewer were in anyway commercial. Not so many opportunities to ask questions from experienced builders. The other thing I would point out is that Daddy Mojo had a sense of history (numbering his work) and amazing marketing with a cool tradmark. Because of the trail he and Shane and others laid down, your # 010 ought to look like our # 100.... Now, there's a challenge for you.... the best, Wichita Sam
