I just finished my first cb Gitty amp kit build. I can turn up both amp and my cbg (2 piezo) to full and hardly hear it. I cranked the tone adjustment all the way up (clockwise) and got a bit more sound, but hardly enough to hear over normal conversation. I've checked wires for continuity so I don't think any bad solder joints. The guitar sounds fine through other amps. Any suggestions?

Is that the 2.5 watt board?

There is a small set phillips head screw in the back of the circuit board, did you turn it all the way to the right? It will add some gain to the sound.

Yes,this is the 2.5 board and the adjustment screw is all the way to the right. Just played it again this morning and I hear it when sitting right next to it and it's pointing right at me. I may go to guitar center today and compare to the Danelectro Honeytone that seems to get great reviews. Only 20 bucks looks like - just to compare levels.

The small phillips screw on the bottom right, turn it all the way to the right.

Something is rotten in Denmark (pardon the expression) These are pretty powerful little amps for 2.5 watts and should be able to hear in the next room. Are you using the Gitty kit that comes with the speaker? Also, can you post a pic of the back of your amp hookups? Might be able to see something there, a pic is worth a thousand words :-)

Take a look. Let me know if a different view would be helpful.

Adding this pic. Again, the Philips screw tone control is all the way up. No distortion - just low volume.

The only thing that comes to mind is maybe the mounting nut, if it gets snugged up to much it will make the amp cut out. Grounding out somewhere comes to mind also maybe? I wish it was sitting right in front of me :-(  Is the pos. and neg. to the led right? Long wire on the led is the pos.

Loosend the mounting nut to the board/volume/on-off switch and no change. Led is wired correctly - long lead to positive (I would assume it wouldn't light if not). I just did another test. I turned the tone adjusting screw full left and can't hear anything through the speaker. I'm thinking this board could be bad (?)

Very well could be Brian, shoot Ben a message. I have put in around 70-80 of these circuits and had 1 that was bad, I've been really happy with them. Not a lucky draw for you maybe?

Just don't go to the Casino's today lol :-)

One thing maybe, check where the led and battery wires go thru the board and make sure they are not hitting the circuit housing in behind maybe?

I have built a few of these and run into the same problem. I thought maybe it was a mismatch between the amp and the speaker, but trying different speakers has not helped.

I double checked all the wiring and solder joints, made sure I had a fresh battery, etc.

I had to move on to other projects, but I suppose it is time for me to revisit that issue.

I don't think that I have bad boards, I just think I am missing something.
