Hey folks -

I've completed several CBG's now, and they have all turned out pretty well. I'd like to build a CBG Bass for a friend. Do you folks normally do those as three stringers? What I would really appreciate knowing is what size lumber you use for the necks... and any other build info / tips / advice you might care to share!

Thanks in advance,

 Will

I replied on the main page but perhaps this will get to you better...

Perhaps look at this for some ideas. This was built by a member here, bemuzic,

I'm about to attempt one myself, probably a three string, so I'd be interested to hear of your ideas/developments! I'm thinking a three string on a 0.5" neck,  fretless (I don't do frets - too hard!) and probably just a under saddle rod piezo for a pickup. Good luck!

I've just started my first bass and hope to see more responses here as I have questions as well. I noticed that you said your neck would be .5", true bass strings are really heavy and even though you plan a 3 string I think that sounds light you may want explore that a little more, probably better to be heavier.

Yes not sure why I said that - it will be more like 1.5"!

I made a 2 string, 1.5"x.75" poplar neck... works great...  even fretless it sounds awesome with a cheap piezo pickup!

Oh: 30" scale...

I recently completed a bass, though I'm no expert at them.  It was a 3-stringer on a 1-inch thick oak bolt/glue-on neck, with no truss rod.  It seems to be holding up OK.  There's a few pics on my page.

have you joined the CBG Bass Group ?  There's a lot of info there and some people who really know what they're talking about.  Good luck.
