Some people just barely round the back corners/edges with sandpaper. No wood file or rasp. And i dont even know what a spokeshave is...lol

Some use glue, some use screws...

I built my first couple (pictures of both in the first few pages of threads in this forum) with....
1. hacksaw.
2. drill .
3. sandpaper.
4, screw driver.
5. soldering iron.
6. needlenose pliers
7. cheap dremel tool
8. a few old fashion cheapo clamps.

every one.

Nah. randy has it covered but I would add that some you might not need depending on your build. Please, please do not buy Gorilla Glue. It expands. You donna wanna that. The least tools you will need would be the saw, hammer, drill, sandpaper, screwdriver. This all depends on what/how you are building. By that I mean are you gonna put a pickup in it? Are you gonna use guitar tuners(pegs)? are you gonna put frets? are you gonna paint it? are you gonna need to shape the neck or leave it square?

Not that these are things you have to decide on, but might be handy to know what tools you would need. We can answer those questions for you.

I would say you *need* a file / rasp combo for doing through-neck builds: getting the relieved slot under the lid is too hard without one, unless you spring for a bandsaw. You can round off the back of the neck with it too, but a spokeshave does a better, more even job, since you are "planing" with the grain.

You could get by with nothing more than the file / rasp, either a brace-and-bit or a hand drill, a coping saw, and a utility knife: maybe some tiny screwdrivers for the set screws on tuners, too: that would get you your basic 3- or 4-string fretless build.
Well im building two. one simple 4 string and one 6 string out of a electric guitar neck, bridge, pickups etc

The number one tool ," Your self" hehehehe, I use a rasp and a cabinet scraper . Don't under estimate the power of a scraper. used right, very little sanding.
For the neck.....a rasp then some sand paper. Or a hand planer....but they need to be pretty sharp, so be careful. You can find really nice antique ones at shops and pay around the same amount of money then you would at home depot for one, and the older ones tend to be build a lot better then the new age plastic stuff.....that that's just me. I could be wrong.

As far as other tools go, you can get pretty primitave with everything, except I would say for a drill. A good electric hand drill is the best. A small drill press, even better. I use mine almost every day. You can get by with out a electric miter saw (aka chop saw) but you would at least need a miter box. Anything that will help you cut a strait line. Other than that. Basic screw driver, hammer, hand saw, and your ready to go. Clamps to clamp glued joints and you are set. You can get a decent plastic set of clamps at wal-mart for around 15 I think. But it is a pretty big bag. Home depot sells some metal clamps around average size for 99cents.....I am thinking about picking some of those up soon. Now, this little tool list I have compiled here is just really for basic CBG building, if you want to carve things, or get really fancy, the more fancy and the more expensive the tools get.
