Hi I am new and I am sure you guys have answered this question before. I have been focusing on 3 string CBGs. I have just finished my second one and am pretty pleased with it. But I would like a different sound besides the piezo, I can't seem to get the sound I would like. Anyway. Do I have to use a 3 string pickup? I mean I can't use a 6 string guitar pickup right? I looked at CB Gitty and I didn't seem to find any for 3 string. 2 and 4 and 6. I would like to find one completely wired as I am new to soldering. I must admit building them is a lot of fun. I also wondered about those new pickups. The flat pup pickups. I guess any advice would be helpful. I know the flat pups are pricey and I am not sure I want to spend that until I get a little better at my builds. Sorry to be asking questions you have probably already answered somewhere here. It's just a big overwhelming place. LOL
Thank you!!
PJ

I am, I have been building for a while and would like to try something different than a piezo. Do you sell these?
I made these in anticipation for a future build, but am willing to offer them to you, since I can always make another set.
$65 plus shipping for the set.
If you have Paypal, I can send you an invoice.
Just use a 6 string pickup..it will work, lots of people do this. You don't HAVE to use one designed for 3 strings.
Be aware if you buy the cheapy strat pre-wired pickups with volume and tone pots that you may end up soldering them anyway. I have purchased 2 in the past and both had broken connections. One on the pup and the other on the jack.
The flat pups from Klangbox are indeed very nice and you can just glue them down to the lid No cutting the lid or neck of the guitar.
If you elect to use a 6-pole pup and you don't like the slant to line up the poles with the strings then you can always use a nail or an allen key or something like that as a rail to bridge the poles.
Most of the fun is in the experimenting. :)
I was under the impression that the string has to pass over the magnet? Is that why the slant on the pickup if a 6 string pick up? I have never even installed a pickup. LOL That's why I was looking for something maybe prewired. I will try and absorb all of this. LOL Thank you all for your help!
"f you elect to use a 6-pole pup and you don't like the slant to line up the poles with the strings then you can always use a nail or an allen key or something like that as a rail to bridge the poles."
That's a little over my head. I don't even know what a pole is. :) Yup I am pretty ignorant. :)
Those look like pretty cool pickups Scott aka Farmer Ted!!
That's a beautiful guitar!!
check out the clearance section of guitar fetish for some inexpensive pickups http://store.guitarfetish.com/Non-GFS-OEM-Pickups_c_313.html
Sometimes I slant them,or run the strings between the poles, or cover the pickup entirely with a can, i've run 6 poles in line with the string on my 1st diddley bow. Seems like as long as its in the neighborhood it will work
