I am beginning the process of building my 1st cbg it is going to be a six string as that is what I am accustomed to playing. I was thinking about using a 24 scale to build this guitar since it would be less tension on the neck, but have had no luck finding anything to tell me where the frets would be located. If anyone has any knowledge that may be able to help please respond also does anyone have some sort of diagram for that particular scale length or any other scale length for that matter? Thanks.

If u gotta iPhone or iPad there's a great free fretcalc that I wrote called JeFretCalc. Otherwise I think there's one on the stew mac site

I dont have either of those, but I will look on the site, thanks.

This site is a pretty good resource:

http://www.ekips.org/tools/guitar/fretfind2d/

You can also download Wfret. I use it to print out my most common fretboard templates. Just tape the template to the fretboard/neck, mark the fret positions, and cut the slots.

I strongly encourage you to build a 3 or 4 string first. You may be biting off too much by starting with a 6 string. If you make a 4 string, you can tune it DGBe and play it like a 6 string. Unless you reinforce the neck or use a truss rod, you are likely to have neck issues. Just my opinion...

Good luck with your project anyway.

if you are used to playing a certain 6 string just use the scale of the guitar you play on. get a scrap length of wood and hold it up to the neck and mark where the frets are and then you have a fret template

Thank I ended up using the program to print of a template but all were good ideas.

i use 25.5" the same scale length as a Strat, no particular reason except i find it comfortable enough and various sized boxes are easy to set up (-:

24" may be a little cramped for six string chords esp. as you get up the neck a bit. I like it for 3 stringers cause it makes it less or a reach for chords. Just my 2 cents.
