I am using a section of threaded rod about  8mm as a bridge on a tin body, my question is should I have a flat bottom on it?

I read some where you should.

sorry i don`t use bolts

You don't have to. If you wanna grind a flat on it, you can. Or do two, one ground flat, the other not. Try em both. No rules. Randy don't do bolts. His bridges are awesome.

Thanks, new to this guitar making thing, but getting the idea, no rules,JFDI.

Tried a number of different options today, currently a wooded one.

David,

Yep, we stress too much over simplicity. If we never effed up, we'd never learn, would we? Read an article today about not saving kids from boredom. Let em figure stuff out, get the creative juices flowing. Same applies here. Not saying don't ask for advice, but once given and taken, then, as you say, JFDI. I think I'll have a T-shirt made up with that ;-).

Try a hardwood dowel or tapered wood block, it less weight and transfers vibration better. if you want a bolt all that matters is it doesn't move. Or try this.

Fantastic technique, as luck would have it I purchased a drill press, and new set of routers bits this weekend,so I will have a go.

Thanks

i used a key for a bridge once it worked fine, as should a round bolt! (-:

Thanks. I am  currently using a 5 mm aluminum L section with good results.

David

I like the look of the metal hardware on CBGs, but i dont like the sound of a metal bridge. If you want a good acoustic sounding guitar, I would suggest a piece of wood.
