Seems like there was a discussion here about fret templates. I finally found some.

Don't know if they are good to have or not.

or just google fret calculator and make your own.
Awww, there was a thread recently that was to a site where if you put in your specs it would print out a chart and even make a PDF of the template. About a month or so ago. Look back for this. might be interesting. You prolly seen it tho.

If you do alot of different scale lengths like I do, the best fret template you could get yourself is the fretting chart from Muscmakers.com . I have turned this chart on to alot of the members here. You won`t be sorry if you have this, it`s so easy. It`s a paper chart that unfolds to about 2 foot by 2 foot and has scale lengths from 13" to 31". All the lines are there for guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, dulcimer. You just lay your fret board along a the scale length you want to use and copy the fret marks on to your fret board. Or you can do like I do and copy the fret marks on thin sticks so you have them ready to use anytime. I have had mine for over 20 yeatrs now and I`m glad I have it, you won`t be sorry you have it either.

Is there advantage to the Fret Chart, verses just going to one of the free fret calculaters on the internet?

I use the Wfret program for my PC. You just enter the scale length you want and how many frets. It will print out a chart or a template for you. You just cut out the template and tape it to the neck and mark the fret locations.

You can get it here:

http://galileo.spaceports.com/~fishbake/index.html

The link for it is about half way down the page.

not any more

I had added that stuff to my blog a while back.

Most of the links for print it yourself templates here are dead end links., I found thuis one that can be printed out. Right Click -> save -> then print to the size you want

http://cigarboxguitars.com/resources/workshops/24-5-guitar-fretboar...

it is not hard to calculate for yourself, the bridge to fret ratio between two consecutive frets is the 12th root of 2  \sqrt[12]{2}

It's Easy enough to do in Excel.  as an example, for a scale of 24, the Nut (fret 0), fret 1, fret 2, fret 3 can be found with this typed into excel :

=24/((2^(1/12))^0)

=24/((2^(1/12))^1)

=24/((2^(1/12))^2)

=24/((2^(1/12))^3)
