thanks spike for the complement! pretty sturdy rocker that hawkins did not know him, kind of a crossover between mark bolan and framton in the early days thanks again glad you liked it! Greeetsszzzz!
Glad you still playing - I often wonder how life turns out for my guitars once they move on to another home. No problem at all with sending you a taller nut. All I need is the length and height of the current nut, if thats possible?
Im actually away for a week as of tomorrow, but soon as I get back Il sort it.
Great! Im really pleased youre getting to grips with it. Some folk adapt really quickly, others never can get their heads around it - sounds like you have!
For your questions; The bridge is floating, so you can keep stacking coins under until you get the right height! At the top end the nut is glued, and I find that I like the strings fairly low over the first few frets anyway, so you can still use your fingers (this means that the action increases up the fretboard, but thats no problem with slide). If you really want a much higher action at the nut end though you could use a nut riser? Its just a little inverted 'V' of metal that you sit over the nut to raise the action for slide playing. Or I could send you a deeper nut...?
With the tailpiece I had the 2 middle strings in the same middle hole - you need to thread them in together, but it keeps it looking tidy :o)
And as for string gauge... er... I cant remember Im afraid! Probably 10s, as I avoid 9s for the most part. I think I had it tuned D G D, so your guess of the E, A & D strings sounds spot on. Have a play with the tunings though - its half the fun. I like E A C#, or E A C as an alternative.
Keep at it, and if you want a new nut cutting just drop me a line
All the best
