Upton Blues Festival at The White Lion

July 19, 2013 at 12:30pm to July 21, 2013 at 9pm
Probably the best completely free blues festival in the UK.Set in the beautiful Worcestershire riverside town of Upton upon Severn, the 2013 festival will be our 12th – growing from a small event in a couple of pubs into what is now a festival that swamps the town with thousands of music fans, features the ‘Best of British Blues’ over a whole weekend on three main stages and nine pub venues, totally over 100 gigs over the weekend. All day Saturday I will be hosting an open mic session, so do…See More

ChickenboneJohn replied to Gary Merrithew's discussion Soft wood necks?
"Softwood will work fine..it's not my wood of choice, but it does work. In my 'make and play' days I use 1" x 1/12" softwood for necks as it cost about 30 cents a neck, and I've done hundreds upon hundreds of them.…"

ChickenboneJohn replied to Daniel Todd's discussion OSB for CBG Neck?

European Tour with Hollowbelly..part the Second

Posted on February 27, 2013 at 2:30am 1 Comment

After my mammoth posting last time, I thought I'd keep this post a little shorter. Our next destination was Asten, in Noord Brabant, Netherlands...to stay with with Ozzy Van Der Loo. We'd never met, but he'd done all the arranging of our gigs and the workshop in Belgium and Southern Holland, so we reckoned he was an on-the-ball sort of guy. We were warmly received by his partner Jolanda, and very shortly afterward Ozzy turned up, and we were introduced to Thomas, their 8 year old son, who…

My first European Tour - on the road with Hollowbelly

Posted on February 19, 2013 at 6:00pm 6 Comments

Well...as the words to a Hollowbelly song go, we knew it would be a "Long Long Road". It was all planned out in a very short time, so our itinerary was a bit random, but we were up for it. A couple of days before the off, my car had to go to the garage to be repaired as the ignition lock barrel had broken...so I had to nervously wait for the "dealer only" parts to arrive, and I got it back in the nick of time on Wednesday night, ready for an early start on Thursday.

A steady drive…

Boxstock actually happens...

Posted on September 25, 2012 at 2:30am 4 Comments

Friday 7th September dawns, and I’m busy packing gear into my car…all my amps and guitars for the open mic. and Saturdays gigs, Mike’s guitars, my stands and merchandising for Leeds guitar show, a load of parts for guitar making kits, plus tools and workmate benches, drums…and a load of cahon making kits…the top box is packed full...and the gear in the back of my little Meriva is packed tight to the roof.

We dial the now-familiar route to Manchester into the…

Boxstock..Part The 2nd...in which I get an international recording artist to slave in my workshop for hours, for no pay...

Posted on September 20, 2012 at 12:00pm 4 Comments

So, Saturday…time for a little relaxation, and Mike, Jane and myself head off into Birmingham. After taking in the canals around Gas Street and Symphony Hall, we were walking along into town and I get a phone call...I’ve left a mic, stand and cables in the back of my car at home. My bass player needs them…and my kids cant find the spare car keys..so muttering “No rest for the wicked”, I run off, drive home in Jane’s car, sort the gear, back into town…and catch up with Mike and Jane in The…

Hey John, I got roped into putting on a small cbg workshop. Wondered if you would be willing to share some advise on the subject. Seems like I saw a deal about a workshop at boxstock. Thanks

Hello! My name is Kevin M. Kraft, founder of the annual Kansas City Cigar Box Guitar Festival. This year's event will take place on August 26th, and once again I am accepting cigar box guitars and cigar box guitar-related donation, which will be raffled off during the festival, the proceeds to benefit Kansas City's Blues in the Schools program. If you have a guitar, accessory, CD, DVD--anything related to cigar box guitars that you would like to donate, please contact me at the Cigar Box Nation or email me at kevinmkraft@juno.com  to learn where to send it.

Thanks for you time and consideration.

Nice to meet you on your missionary trip to the pagan northeast yesterday.

It does seem to be a wilderness up here as far as the CBG movement is concerned.

Did you succeed in making any converts ?
