Piezo location

I would like to know the best Piezo location for the best sound quality and why.  I know there are many different opinions on this subject. I personally like to locate 2 piezo inside the bridge, this…Continue

Preamp for rod piezo?

Started by Mark Reaney. Last reply by Bruce Trappes Sep 27, 2015. 2 Replies

Hi,I just tried my first rod-piezo, mounted under the saddle of the bridge.  I was rather underwhelmed. The sound was just fine, a bit more mellow than my usual disc type piezo, but the volume was so…Continue

The circuit below provides a theoretical -15dB notch from 400Hz to 4KHz.  The first stage, J1, is the buffer that I plan on trying first.

Gustavo...If I remember correctly, Dennis' filter uses an inductor.  Those are very hard to find for most folks who are scrounging parts.  The schematic below uses resistors and capacitors which are easier to get.  Adding an inductor, just makes the build a little more complicated.

I'm going to try a jfet buffer to solve my feed back problems.  The buffer will provide an impedance match between the piezo and the amplifier. If nothing else, the buffer will help the CBG sound fuller in the amp...not so tinny.  If the buffer fails to control the feedback, then I'm working on this design that uses a passive T notch filter.  The filter uses a jfet buffer at the begging and end of the circuit.  It works from about 400Hz to 2KHz and is variable.  It provides some boost as well.  The first potentiometer, P1, is the typical 500Kohm volume control found on the piezo.

Thanks Bill for the links, they are very useful .... Altogu I will never try on my own (poor experience & poor tools) to try to put one on my purchased guitars .... =)  but I definitelly tried on the CBG I'm building.    I have also another link I would like to share with you guys about Piezo and aditional filtering system added to them, This links comes from the page of Dennis Havlena (great and inspiring site by the way!), inside the section of Bass cheap amplification there are a couple of Diagrams very useful, hope you like them too.. http:/dennishavlena.com/electric.htm

This is an excellent piezo buffer from an excellent site for music related DIY electronics.

Using a JFET Preamp with a piezo pickup

A schematic is in the article...very easy to build.  I'm having feedback problems with my piezo mounting.  As I've already glued the piezo to the CBG, I'll try the preamp first before tearing out the piezo.

Piezeo Tutorial

The link above is a tutorial on intalling a piezo pickup in a cheap acoustic guitar.  I found it interesting that it says to mount the piezo with 50% of it hanging in thin air.

What kind of packaging piezos using ?

If piezo sounds good in their packaging then use. If not don't use.

I'm just a new guy on this world of construction of CBG, but I love it, I'm finishing my first one!. My plan is to use two different Piezo pickups I got from old electronic junk. They come with their own "packaging" so I'm uncertain to use them like that or remove the cover .....

maybe its just me but I like the sound of a piezo pickup. I usually will wire two to a lead. However I do not use the prewired leads I replace them with a nice big speaker wire 16 ga I think and it seems to address a large amount of the buzzing associated with piezos.
