Jim, if you are buying components at Radio Shack you are spending 2 to 5 times as much as you need to. Also, using the piezos in the plastic housing almost always yields disappointing results - bad feedback, etc. I have an article I wrote specifically on piezos and ways to make the best use of them, you can find it here: http://www.cbgitty.com/?p=98. Also, check out my store at http://www.cbgitty.com/cubecart/ for good deals on piezos, jacks and all sorts of other CBG components.

Get them WITHOUT the shell. I like the larger ones. Less chance of putting it in the wrong spot.

Thank!..I going to start buying them with the shell...Is 35mm better than the 20mm?

You can get them without shell and with wires really cheap on Ebay or Gitty. I like the 35mm ones, but smaller is cool too and use two of them - halves the impedance. And a volume control won't help your buzz.

I been useing a Radio Shack piezo enclose in it shell...I have been mounting it under the bridge of the neck...But most people who play saying they getting a buzz through their amp...It could also be they have no experrience with CBG too. lol....I planning on adding a volume control and useing the piezo without the shell...

I think you'll need to be more specific. You mean buzz like ground hum? You can earth your tailpiece if it is metal. I don't get hum from piezos and rarely need to earth the strings on a piezo gat. If it's a magpup, definitely earth the strings. If your tailpiece is wood, you'll need to work out a way that the strings contack a strip of metal and earth that metal. If it's all earthed and you're using single coil, especially P90, the fact is they are noisy, especially around computer screens and dimmer switches.

Sometime my CBG get a buzz...would a volume control help?

Sans remarks about"no rules" and the value of diving in to start building is spot on. My first one wasn't stellar, but I've still had a blast playing with it. My second is much better though, mostly for having been through the process just once and incorporating all of those "next time I'll do. . . " thoughts. Dive in and God bless! Happy Easter folks!

mike,

FYI, PBass pickguard with pups...

These pickups are often sold in pairs of 4 poles pups wired in series.  I've only used them this way of bass and baritone CBG projects.  on regular CBGs I only use one and have had no issues with resistance, balance, volume etc.  Always give a low, thick and throaty tone.

hope this helps,

WSam

Mike,

the early mantra of the CBG community was "no rules"... while picking the brains of experienced builders can be helpful, there is nothing like building..  Start with some of the basic tutorials and build a couple CBGs.  You will learn more than asking a thousand questions, and then your questions will be more targeted to help you build the CBG that you really want.

the best,

Wichita Sam
