First CBG just about done - Looks good, but won't stay tuned...

Hmmm. I increased the zoom to about 200% on photo #5, and I'm afraid that Ken may have some serious problems, specially with string #1 at the bottom. That hole is HUGE. While a new tuner alone may o…

Photo #2 DOES look like you have those tuners upside down (I did that too). #3 A lot of people just pop the nail-looking thing out of a rivit and using the tube. ALWAYS have a flat piece of wood unde…

Tsk. Only ONE photo, and none on your page? Get to it, chum, there's pixels that need work. Let's see shots of the peg head, bridge, and nut. Of course, what I *can* see looks awesome...

I never cut a slot in the fretboard for nuts. My fretboard is seperate from the neck, and I just glue the nut to the corner where the fretboard ends. I have a pencil that I have ground flat on one side by holding it to a sanding disk. I lay the pen…

Michael J King is a genius. I've built lyres based on his plans, and may make one of his kantele, as well. His videos on making strum sticks are very entertaining. I don't know what he would say about cigar boxes, though. Lol. Good work. I bet it s…

Stacy, what if you thinned the top from the INSIDE? Use a router, or drill press and chisel? Unless, of course, you REALLY want to have it bottems up...

Oly, how many strings do you want?

cheaper than a pot , just cut in a small capacitor between the posts on the jack , experiment with a few caps to get the right amount of hi cut . i mean a tone control is a pot with a cap , you COULD save 4 bucks and just find some caps from old ele…

Hey, I built a wooden box from pallet wood and wired a piezo buzzer to output jack. I drilled a hole for the jack and taped the piezo pick up to the inside bottom of the box. it sounds pretty good through my bass amp. I wonder how it would sound wit…

Great! THAT should keep you out of trouble for a while. When you start making fretboards a few at a time, you may want to build a permanent template out of plexiglass or notched into the side of a yardstick. REMEMBER: When you have ONE template, yo…

There are fret calculators out there that would let you print out a tamplate you could paste onto your fretboard. Can't get much easier than that. Does anyone have a program they could recommend?

Yep. Should stiffen the neck a bit, too. With MY level of playing, anything past the 12th fret is wandering into unknown territory. But for someone who ISN'T a rank beginner, any fret you can reach is fair game.

I never let bears use my tools. What? "BARE minimum?" Never mind. Be sure to post photos when you have it strung up. I'd really like to see the peg head and the tail piece.

Have you tried Urban Lumber? 2440 Main Street, Springfield, OR (541) 988-9663. I've found some AMAZING pieces of wood there.

When you click on "reply," it brings up a white text box with icons at the very top. The camera icon, on the far left, will put your image inline.

Have you tried encyclopedia Smithsonian? http://www.si.edu/encyclopedia_si/nmah/hdmake.htm

When I plug my piezo uke into Fender amp can, I can blow windows out if I crank it up. I have to play "clean" (no gain, no distortion) so I don't sound like Jimi Hendrix, but that's ok.

I'm an HTC/Sprint/Android combo myself - mail and net connectivity has always been good, but speed goes south once in a while if I get too many apps running in the background. Have you been able to get any connectivity with your device ever, or is the problem you're having something that was working and broke?

Alan you don't need to "unlearn old practices", you just need to learn new ones. And practice, instinctive shooting works best. Like pointing your finger at a flying fly around the house. Just keep practicing.

Hey Alan,
Have you ever thought that maybe the shotgun doesn't fit you right? or sighted in correctly? Shooting trap isn't the easiest thing to do, but the next time you go,.. just remember this,... "lead and follow through" meaning shoot a little infront of the clay and swing through. My hubby is a hunter for food, not a trophy hunter and he taught me alot. I shot my first wild turkey a few years ago, it weight 23 Lbs.
Hunter Safty course is a great Idea,.. I highly recommend it to every man, woman and child. Even if they don't hunt, they need to know how to handle any gun weither it's loaded or not. Afer all,... "It's not the Gun that kills,... It's the person behind the gun"!!! Sorry don't mean to sound like a commercial ! LOL

Heh, thanks for the comment. Veneer is a plate of lacewood. It has a fantastic grain and works very nicely as well. I have another guitar that I did where the entire neck was made out of lacewood (see it here: http://smokehouseguitars.com/blognewsroll/?p=833 ) and it remains my favorite to play to this day.

Also, yeah, truss rod is installed.

took me a minute to register the smokehouse cone thing.ok those cones are brass and they are turned on a lathe in texas.you screw them down and no soundwell is needed. the guy that gets them turned is a guy in texas called old lowe--he is a member here, the smokehouse guy also sells them for old lowe on his smokehouse site. those brass cones have a great sound and are warm sounding for tone compared to aluminum which is brighter in tone, and i have a video on my page called (my lowezo) if you would like to hear the tone of the brass cone.they are not very expensive to get. last time i checked the ones that are cigar box size are only 25 bucks, the larger ones are 35 bucks.any how i have used many types of items to make resonator cigar box guitars with,i once even used an aluminum center hub cap from a chevy caviler car, that one is in a arturo fuente king b cigar box in my pics on my page. check out the vid when ya get time and if ya talk to old lowe about getting a brass cone tell him the cajun sent ya.
