Amp in guitar body

Has anybody ever tried to put an amp (perhaps homemade, like a tape deck) directly into the body of a guitar? You'd have to use something a little larger than cigar box, but it would be awesome not to have to drag a chord around. Thoughts?

More recently I have started to think you don't get alot of volume due to the small amp size and so mount the speaker for the benefit of the player with it pointing at the players face in the playing position.
