Has anyone used the printable fret template from this site? Seemed like it would be really easy. Marked it on my neck and checked with a couple of online fret calculators and the results don't match up. Starting at the nut, my 11th fret mark is in the middle of the scale (12.25") I don't play at all, build first, learn next, so I'll graciously accept all ridicule for a D.A. question.

I think once you've saved the fret template to your file, and print it, measure that the little "1 inch" line is truely an inch. You may find it's longer than an inch and reduce to like 90% size or something. I think that's what I had to do. Once i got the right size i made several photocopies. Hope this helps. Have fun CBGn'! I just made one that will probably be 24.5. I was planning on using the Wfret program, which calculates the fret position, based on your scale and the number of frets you intend to have. I have not used it yet, so I have no idea how well it works.

You can get it here:

I checked the little one inch scale, it was a little long. I used the wfret program and printed it out. The template seemed to be much better. I'm only sawing lines to mark the frets so this may be the trick. Windows Vista gave me no option to rescale the other one. Thanks for all the help.
Iggy, I used a 24.5" scale with 19 frets, template seems to be accurate withe the simple measuring tools I have.
I like to use the Fret Calculator on Stewmac.com. You have to measure the frets out yourself but it lets you build for whatever scale you want and uses inches or metric. Works for me. I hope it helps.
