I was wondering how most of you square up the neck coming out of the box?  Im working on a padron box thats a little un square. I have the front neck slot cut out of the top and its centered. Its not a thru neck.

Thought so ....getting lost. Why are some posts not showing. I had to retype and resend using the edit/save method.  I wrote a detailed reply and it did not show up, very annoying

Taff

Maybe a dumb questions, but why do you need the neck perfectly perpendicular to the outside of the box? I've seen a number of designs for box guitars on this site and some purposely put the neck at an angle to to box (mostly for style reasons).

If your bridge is in the right place and angled as needed to achieve intonation, then the angle of the neck to the box is not really relevant.

Some things are critical on the design (scale, fret locations, action height, intonation, etc.) and others not so much. I say focus on the critical stuff and don't get off track on the things that don't

Maybe I'm missing something.

No Tom, I agree with you on that. Ive learned to be more concerned with string alignment down the neck to the tail then whether or not the box is square. I was asking more or less peoples thoughts on that.

And some of the responses arent showing up for me also

Well, you are right about sting alignment. I usually mark the center of the neck at the head stock and the point where it enters the box. I then use a long straight edge on these two points to see where the center of the bridge is supposed to be. If it's in the center of the box, great. If not, It all depends on how far off center it is. If it is noticeable, the you're right, the neck to box angle needs to be shifted a bit.

type your post as usual, but copy it before adding the reply. If it is blank, then click the Edit button and past your original reply then Save. A bit of a pain in the ass, but it seems to work

Ha,., well I tried

This blank response thing is odd. I wonder if the web-masters are working on it.

I just did this posting and, yes, it came out blank.

But, before I originally posted it, I copied the message to my computer's clipboard. When the message showed up blank, I hit the Edit button and then pasted my message in place. I then hit the Save button and it came out correctly.
