So im starting my second CGB build. Ive got my box picked out. It doesnt have a latch on it just two hinges on one side. I like to be able to open the box back up if need. So i dont wanna glue it shut. I need to find a latch. So heres the problem: The box ive decided to use has a gap between the top and bottom. Its about 5-6 mm. I need a latch that is long enough to cover the gap. Ive looked at some of the local stores with no luck.

Any suggestion on where i might find a latch for my box?

Heres a pic of the gap:

Why is there a gap?? A cigar box should have a good seal to keep the cigars from drying out.
I think it's just the style of that box. I've got one too, an Indian Tabac Cigar box, and it's got that same style gap (as it has those little slices of wood inside the box... ya know what I'm talking about?)

David, I'm not sure where to try... maybe a hobby type store, or online. I would think rather than a clasp latch, a swinging hook style latch would work for that (as it might be longer with more reach). As far where to find it man, good luck! Keep us posted....

Drill 4 holes, one hole in each of the corners and bolt it together, Thats what I did with my 1st guitar.
Bob:)
Yea its a Indian Tabac box. It does have the wood wood inserts inside to fill the gap and keep it sealed. I think the swinging hook type might work. I just havent found any measurements for them. I may just have to buy one and see how it works. I never thought about bolting or screwing it together. I might look into that. Thanks for the input everyone.
Well, you learn something new every day. I did not know those boxes were like that.
Self adhesive velcro, or a short belt and buckle (old watchband with small pop rivets).
maybe like a couple of latches from an old suitcase. menards may have them. or ace hardware
What about putting a band of wood in there or binding to fill the gap. Some brass flat stock would look sweet or a bit of that plastic chrome the low riders use on the edge of the car doors could work to spice it up. Just some thoughts
I screw all my boxes closed too cuts down on uwanted rattles. If I need to get into it later it's easy to remove four screws then if it's glued ( the learning lessons of first builds)
Sometimes when I am looking for parts I go to resale stores and look around, maybe there is something on used clothing or a container that I can strip for parts. You might look in your fishing tackle box, perhaps a snap swivel can be modified to fit.
Good idea man, is there such a thing as a counter sunk seat for the screw?(if that makes any sense)
