...I know, so there's hope for us mere mortals yet! :-)

OK I'll get my act together and put together two threads. One on just throat health and breathing techniques. This will be for those who want to keep it ruff and gritty. Be you but stronger and healthier. The other for those who hate the sound of their own voice.
Neither of these thread will tell you to practice scales.

By the way, Thanks Doug for posting this.

Now for a few of my favorite singers,

two of my favorites together

Not much to look at but one of their best.

I anxiously await both.  I'm continually pursuing learning in every way.  Maybe do them as extended blog posts like the "I See Threes" that has been done adding a chapter at a time so later someone could go through the whole thing all at once instead of surfing through 9 pages of forum posts looking for the original knowledge vs commentary.

Good on you for doing it and thanks.

Bad Finger, didn't think about making a blog. Great idea! Still on my old computer so I'll have to start this out as posted threads. This will also give a better opportunity for questions and such. Then I'll put together a blog for each subject. More of a reference from start to finish. With links in each blog to the original posted threads.

You know you can make blog posts right here on CBN, right?

Bad Finger, The problem is on my side. I have a really old iMac. Because I can't update anymore I can't use some of the features on this site. I do plan on getting a new iMac soon. I just got another notice from my IP. "We no longer support your browser...." Yes they support Safari. Not the version I have. It's so old It came with a chisel and a stone. : )

Doesn't the downward-travelling horizontal line on your green screen really annoy you?

:)

That was a great article and very true.

I can't sing, and I know exactly what I need to do to fix it.

I need to practice proper breathing but I'm to self conscious about my voice to practice.

I don't know why I never feel the same anxiety about playing an instrument as I do about singing.

Do you ever stress about talking to people? If you don't, then you can sing to them. It's also R eally easy if tone deaf people encourage you. You can watch this on American Idol every week.

Which doesn't mean YOU can't sing.

Start by singing the notes you play. This will help you with pitch. It will also build your confidence.

Last bit is good advice.  I sometimes - often - quite often really - find it difficult to hit a good note when playing a chord.  When I just play the root note, or the one I'm trying to hit absent the others, then it is a clearer target.  Try just playing the notes you want to sing then add the others in as your ear and muscle memory adjusts to the song.

if you're playing an instrument you know exactly how it sounds - on the other hand hearing your own voice is a complete shock, nothing like you imagine until you get used to it, but in a live situation the goalposts are moved again as you can't hear yourself through the PA and you get wrong notes without even realising it, takes a lot of experience to get past this  :-)

I think of you believe in what you sing and you feel it, people will get the feeling from you

Blues is a emotion and ain't that what it's all about?

So, I think you just need to commit, go for it, and express something through your singing...

This is the purpose, the meaning and the history of singing
