Ok, I searched the forum and didn't see anything but as the collection grows and I wind up with far too many of these hanging on the wall, do I leave them tuned up or release the tension? with no truss rod my inclination is detune but please let me know what you think.

Ease up on the tension on the ones you don't play.
well .. my best advice first off, is to give me that car in your profile picture to make more room for the guits ;-)
then , its a "different strokes for different folks" kinda answer . many store em tuned , especially if its a new guitar , (the strings need to stretch and find their own . ) some also believe leaving them tuned keeps the guitar in "shape " ,
de-tuning or stringless, you leave the wood open to the will of climatic conditions , humidity etc ..
then again those conditions in your area may be a deciding factor either way . tension may help humidity bow a guitar .
number of strings and gauge can be a factor to .
it can also be a testament to your materials used .
i store mine tuned .. hell, i even ship my witches fully tuned , and they usually play tuned right out of the box. .
but that's my opinion and personal situation .
lol, Not that I would but ole pop's name is on the title. At least I get to help spend my inheritance! Just started a 68 camero, two of them actually. one will be strip 9ish seconds, the other will be a streeter. he has the the 65 chevelle, a vega race car, the frst 68 camero which is way closer to finished than the basket case I am waiting get to... it's fun, and is scares the liver out of the wife.. the chevelle is a blown 454 putting about 800 horse to the rear tires.. just plain fun but it gets about two gallons to the mile... the vega is a 502 it burned 3 gallons of fuel at idle in neutral in 20 minutes when breaking the engine in...
sweet .. id like to see the 68 when done ;-)
yes keep 'em tuned, minor changes in the humidity and atmosphere will affect the tuning slightly but the tension will keep everything in shape - think of shoe trees ;-)
poplar is a hardwood !
it is indeed a hardwood , but softer than some other hardwoods . but still a hardwood .
nothing wrong with poplar necks on 3 stringers .. in-fact i have heard more horror stories about oak bowing than poplar . also curling up after going through a plainer , and a host of other problems . not to mention being harder to work with .
i'm not knocking oak here .. just sticking up for poplar getting a false bad rap .
tons of builders on here have used , poplar for years with no problems and prefer it . .. yet have a few oak fail stories .
that being said .. poplar can vary in hardness , Canada usually has the better quality stuff available .. but some times you gotta weed through the pissy green stuff .
best to check them out well at the store first .
