Hi,

I am having an issue and not sure if it is me or the saw. I purchased cbgitty medium/medium fret wire and through their site they linked to a pull saw on Amazon which I purchased. The frets are lose and come out easily. I am not sure if others have had issues like this. Any advice?

Thanks,
Mike

Excellent, thank you. That is great. Much better than using a square as it all also adds some beef to run the saw against. Thank you very much!
Mike this is what I did for a guide in photo below. Clamp it on, left hand fingers on flat of blame holding thumb behind the block then saw with right hand. For depth I just went tooth depth wich on the Irwin it worked out to be an easy way to gage the depth.

...not to mention the chance of slipping and taking out a finger or two...RRRRRR!!!...now THAT'S manly!  The blood just adds so much CHARACTER to the build... ;^}

Looks great, thank you for posting!

Like mentioned in the other posts, I just clamp a short section of 1x2 at the fret line and hold the saw against it, I do use a rafter square to make sure the 1x2 is at a right angle to the neck (my eyes ain't what they used to be). As far as reversible I don't see why not

Thank you Jeff!

Picked up this flush cut saw and just did my first ever fret board with it.

Worked well in oak.

I marked the lines with a square and just very carefully started each cut. Then it was a few strokes and done.

Did not use a mitre box or guide this time but prob good for the future.

Super glued a piece of wood on blade for stiffness and depth gauge,.

The saw was $13 at home depot. Good luck!

I believe its this. http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-Flush-Cut-Pull-Saw-DWHT20541/2030...

Size of slots looks good. I used a neck from http://www.nickelcbg.com/

as a template. Can't take credit for the piece of wood on the blade, read it somewhere

on here but it works great. I will be putting in frets tomorrow and will post how they fit the slot. Nice thing is blade is 2 sided so u get two blades for price of one !

Thank you. Was this your first fretboard? I still am behind. Between work and weather I'm not where I want to be but hoping that changes soon.

Yeah Mike, after reading responses here I must agree that I too prefer to pay less. However every saw, rasp, spokeshave or any hand tool that I payed more for than I wanted to was money well spent. So many of my "money saver" tools are now quietly collecting sawdust. I went to the hardware store with calipers in hand looking for a cheaper fret cutting saw to no avail and ended up with Stew Mac's saw which is perfect but cost a bit. Before that I settled for crazy gluing frets into too wide slots but I'm much happier now!

Thanks Jim. All makes a lot of sense.

Hi
My way to make
I put some glue in the grooves with toothpick.
I put the frets with a little hammer.
I remove excess glue with a solvent.
I clamp for maintain during drying.
