I fitted a single coil pick up to my gone fishing cbg with a volume control but alas nothing would work!

I wired every thing up as per instructions.

mmm me thought I'll try the peizo wired that to the volume but no worky?

so I wired the peizo directly to the jack  its working! so I re soldered the single pick up no worky again

swapping wires around made no difference.so out came the single pick up .

I then put the earth wire to the amp jack plug ..tip.. and the red wire to the lower pin  it worked.

I tap the pick up and it made a tapping noise through the amp .so that proved that the pick up is working ok ,but why it wouldn't it work wired directly to the jack ,the peizo did so the jack is wired ok.

here's some pictures..

um...

but you WANT these things to ground their chassis....

skip the grommet suggestion mate this is not your problem..

you need to go to the auto store and buy a $10 multimeter..

you have a short somewhere

maybe a bad pot, that does happen

thank you for your quick reply.if that is the case then I'll fit the coil to wood only.

I'm not going to strip the tintar as you call it  to refit the coil.

it work perfectly ok with a peizo also with playing or trying to play  I don't think I'll need a volume control fitment either.

I'm very pleased what I've made so far .seeing that it is my second make.

if you look in the UK post .I've made a one stringer called the rabit ,have a look and you'll see why.

that also sound nice too.john

oh and my youngest son(28) he please a 6 string guitar and he likes my tin tin!

You ALMOST have it wired right... Ground that open lug on the pot...

Like PK said, go buy a cheap meter, set it to 20K Ohms and measure the resistance across the coil leads.  It should be around 3k or so, if I recall...  if it's OPEN (-1 on the display) or short (0 on the display) something be wrong...

If it shows a short, make sure you didn't reverse the wires on your output jack... then you would have grounded the hot lead...  To test that for sure, remove the pickup jack and hook it up...

I had an open coil recently... very sad...

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time...

the jack is wired right other wise the peizo wouldn't work.

I've wired the mag pick up directly to the jack but nothing(just in case the volume knob is faulty)

tried the peizo wired to the knob! to that didn't work either.

any way I've put the strings on now.if I do make a tin tin again I will try what you said .thanks.

Bummer, sounds like you have a bad pickup.

Careful, if the piezo and mag pup are parallel wired then one will always work even if the other is defunct.

Hmmm, mag pup direct to jack doesn't work....piezo-to-vol-to-jack doesn't work...bad jack? (It happens.)

Good point.  I had a poorly made jack...  If you pushed the plug in all the way, it would move off the tip.  Though from your picture, that does not seem to be the case.

Check your cord?

Cheap multi-meters are so handy. :-)

Careful, if the piezo and mag pup are parallel wired then one will always work even if the other is defunct.

the single coil was removed,I didn't solder the two together as one would still work while the other didn't.

I do have a multimeter. I remove the s/coil altogethe but left the vol/knob on. it is fitted with a peizo now and stringed up.

the big hole where the pick up was I put a piece of wood in it place which looks quite nice. peizo is directly under it.heres a picture...

So do you have it working?

I like the fishing theme.

yes it is working.peizo is wired directly to the jack.

sound nice acoustically.
