I figured I would start a thread to talk about where we all get our materials to build CBG's. If someone can tell me a cheap source for electronics and pickups I'll tell you how to get a set of quality tuning pegs (6 to a side) for $12 shipped. Everything else I either get direct from the Martin Guitar factory since I live around the corner from it, or the wood from lowes. Let us know!

Go to the only music shop and see of they have anything in the junk box that will work.
Dont't y'all get your piezos and plugs from the Radio Shack?

You can get a better deal off ebay for just the element. No wires. I think ~ $10 for 10. Beats RS any day. Plus you can pick up jacks cheap too.

piezo

1/4" jacks

I get boxes from several tobacconists in the area; free or no more than 5 bucks. Wood is mostly from big-box hardware stores, though I've had good luck scrounging from the dumpsters at work. (the university is always building or remodeling something)
Piezos are standard radio shack; I don't quibble about the 2.00 price as I don't build in quantity. I usually buy cheap (5 bucks a set) light-gauge guitar strings from Wally world.
I've been using brass rod stock from a hobby store for frets; comes in a variety of diameters and costs 2 bucks for enough for a guitar.
Which ones do you get Sam?

Ronnie,

if you're asking about piezos from Digikey, I use part no. 102-1126-ND .92500 37.00 T description... "BUZZER PIEZO ELEMENT 6.5KHZ 20MM"... these are about 3/4" in diameter with about 4" of wire lead attached. Very stable and can take abuse (If often trim them with shears for special installation) Last order of 40 piezos cost me $ 41.53 delivered)

if you're refering to jacks, I'm not that particular, although if you can get "long necked" ones (about 1/4 long jack shaft) it makes installation easier...
