Greetings CBN!

I know you must seen this question before, but what the hell, I'll ask again. Maybe will find some help here.

I'm an Israeli expat living in Prague, Czech Republic. I just found CBG few weeks back and yesterday completed my first 3-string fretless (out of tea box, but looks and sounds ok). I'm already thinking about the next build, but the thing is I can't find a cigar box. I tried everything, tobacco shops, ebay, Amazon, etc. No one have, or willing to ship it to me. I can't build my own boxes sine I have limited amount of tools and working space (I'm renting a flat in a city center).

Locals don't know about CBG, so its hard make tobacco sellers exited and find me an empty box. When I ask and trying to explain they look at me like I'm an alien, spitting a green goo (my Czech language skills are close to nothing, that also might be a reason for their reaction :)).

I was wondering if anyone can suggest where to look, or order from. Maybe you have few extra boxes and you will be able to send it to me (I'll cover the costs obviously). I tried couple of shops who ship internationally, but they charge a $30 shipment fee on a $3 box...I'm running out of options.

Help/suggestions will be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Shalom,

That seems to be a common problem all over your side of the pond. The shipping is really prohibitive.

And I just looked at the US Post Office site, and the cheapest I could find was about $18 USD, and that would be for a package that would only hold maybe 2 cigar boxes max.

Thanks for checking Dan. Yeah, I know, but for me make scene to pay $20 for 2 boxes from US than to buy random (non-cigar boxes) from UK's Amazon for like £5 a box and another £10 for delivery. Next country I'm moving to will be cigar smoking country.

:-)

Hey Dan, which shipping option is that cheap?  I checked the US post office site and for international to the Czech Republic, all of the budget options are listed as not available.  I was thinking I could help a noob out as I have an abundant stock of boxes I am not going to use.  $40 plus though would be a lot more than charitable.

Well, I guess that is my error. I didn't see the not available on the right hand side when I looked at the prices. Sorry.

No worries.

For $20 I figured I would help a brother out.  For $40, I'd need to be less of a stranger.

Thanks Don, $40 is sure too much. Thanks again for checking.

Use some other kind of recycled container mate, they're hard to get here too. But going to effort or expense to get the box kind of undermines what it's all about IMHO. Just find something. Steel boxes work great, so can plastic

Do they have any "Thrift" shops of 'Flea Markets"  any thing like that where they sell unwanted stuff for charities etc. ? You might find a nice jewlery box or silverware box  or the like at some of those places. Like the Kid said, just about anything that has air space inside can be used.

Thanks for the involvement guys. CR is very specific country. They seems to have a bit of everything but even the locals don't know where to look for specific staff when you ask them. They have bunch of antique shops (as they called here), I looked in bunch of them didn't find nothing yet. My firs CBG I  made from Pickwick tea box. Luckily its wood and looks great. I really want an authentic cigar box as well, in my opinion they just look so much better.

Any wine boxes about?
