Hi All,

Im very new to all of this, Ive built two cigar box guitars so far.

1 x 3 string slide and a 4 string tenor with great success.

Think im hooked!

The problem I am having now is sourcing wooden cigar boxes.....

could anybody give me some ideas were I can get a supply at reasonable costs?

I'm in the UK so P&P costs are an issue....

Im also happy to trade....Im a photographer with a website maybe you may like some of my work?

I have a guitar strap that was owned by Steve howe from the band "YES"................I dont know....?

Use some other kind of container from the trash, that's the name of the game..
Don't take 'cigar box' too literally

Steel boxes, cookie tins work great.
Plastic can surprise you too

Hi Leon,

I tend to use a larger box that can be used with a recycled strat neck and find the wooden 175 slide boxes off ebay for around £10 are good.  Ebay for regular cigar boxes seems pricey though.

I haven't used these myself so don't know how good they are-

and this uk member was after selling some boxes a while ago but not sure if he is still after buyers http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/cigar-boxes-5

Wow that UK member has a lot of boxes !

lucky devil.

Thanks for the info, have contacted him.

try  walking into  any  place that sells cigars  ...  or that has a humidor  , and ask   if they   have any   boxes ,   ,,  you  may be    suprized  ,  you  may  even get them  free  .

it  may also  be  a great  place to     display   your  guitars  for  sale  .    etc etc  .  maybe even  make a deal  on  a  guit  for a constant  supply .

Not sure what you mean by "reasonable costs" - apart from flying over to the US with a suitcase to fill with boxes Leon i'm afraid you'll have to take the shipping costs on the chin, if you're not fussy about your boxes there are sellers in the UK that sell cheap boxes but from what i've found they sell small boxes, though i've seen some amazing builds from small boxes!  Some UK sellers have good boxes for 10-15 pounds each plus postage.

I am very fussy about my cigar boxes, i want them at least 10 inches long by 8" wide, they usually have to be attractive or  colourful, some ebay sellers in the US i buy from charge 3/4 dollars for the box and 24 dollars postage for TWO such boxes, which i think is worth it if you're spending £50-£60 on wood for the neck, custom pickup and quality hardware and switches, never mind many hours of hard work! ....to be rewarded with a perfectly playable great sounding instrument that you'll love!

£17 including £12 postage for one box, pushing the boat out a little but worth every penny!

you know, this is what pisses me off about ebay. you see the boxes from the uk for sale and their well overpriced.

up to 20 quid for a box that sells in the usa for about five bucks but warrents a bloody hefty postage cost to the uk.

but their so damn cool...

they sure are! (-:

£3.00

£4.00 (posted together for 24 dollars)

Are these what you have purchased, or have for sale?

My small box is a DonTomas

these are ones i've bought for my winter building projects (-:

Cool !

I look forward to seeing them when done.
