I never much wanted a double neck guitar.  Sorry, double neck fans, they seem too flashy and 'look at me' for an intermediate level player like me.

But.....  I use 2 tunings:   GDg and DGB.   Between the two, I can do a lot and produce different styles and tones.   But to change things up, I am too often changing guitars.

What if I made a 2 banger?   Would I feel like a pretender?  Would they/ it play well?   Would my whole life be better?

I'm in the finishing stages of my first double myself. I am setting one up as a 4 string reso and the other a simple 3 string. I do understand the versatility of it all and I am building it for a real guitarist so I will see what he thinks of the whole thing from design to functionality. I'll keep you posted uncle John.

Go for it John, you just will have to learn how to do that mid song jump into the air with your heels up and your head tossed back> Really tight jeans seem to help with this move!!!

BUt seriously, it sounds like a good way to reduce how much gear you have to haul and also save time between tunings, just use the other neck. Now I want to try one too..............

Guys,

Please, when you build show them to us and critique them a bit.   I think I MAY do one this late spring or summer.   I know what I want to try for necks.   Just don't have a box that seems right.

That home made highway 61 sign box would have been good.   Just picked it up - not enough space to add a second neck.   I have a pretty decent old gas can that would make a good relic double.

A gas can relic double?     What say ye?

make sure it's empty first!!!

Clock, I am a little apprehensive about the first cut or drill into that old gas can.  It's been empty a long time but still smells like gasoline.

John,

Lots o' washing in yer future! You could dump in a coupla tubs of baking soda, let it soak up fumes and any residual, then rinse all that out multiple times, followed by soap and hot water, and more rinses.

I like the idea of a gas can relic double. You might wanna check with bairfoot cajun, see how he's done them.

Good idea.  I will at least go look at his photos.

Charcoal! Real wood charcoal or if you want to be real good go to a pet store and get some coconut shell carbon. It will soak up all the vapor and residue in the can.

If you want, send me your address and I can send you some of my vapor scrubber cartridges.

Double neck guitars? > Kid stuff!

When ya' wanna get serious...

(Sorry... didn't bookmark, and now can't find, where I discovered this photo or I'd credit/link it.)
