When The Lights Go Out - The Black Keys - Cigar Box Guitar & Vocal Cover

For this one I've given singing a go. Singing along to my 4 string cigar box guitar in standard tuning (EADG), also using a Fender Reverb 63 pedal.

Thanks John. I think it's when it's just me I'm not sure about but I sing in a rock band bit that seems much easier, probably with all of the instruments and other people singing too. Buggy has done some cool stuff over the years no doubt about it.

Clarky, one guy who early on seemed to think he couldn't sing was Buggy and he worked and nerved himself into a good singer with a distinctive sound.   The biggest and hardest part early on is working up the nerve to do it.  Keni Lee Burgess would talk about turning your 'Give A Shitter Down Low.'

The main thing is finding songs the suit your range and key.  There are a lot of songs that I can sing - AND A LOT THAT I CAN'T and I try to stay away from those.   If you can't sing a song try it in different keys.

I don't know about the face thing.  A lot of us are older dudes and a sudden shock could be too much all at once....   Well heck.  They are gonna die sometime anyway.  Maybe just put up a warning and disclaimer and do it.

Thanks Bob, I love Rubber Factory, definitely one of their best.

Thanks John, I'll definitely try a few more now that I've gotten one out of the way. I might even film my head you never know :)

Those are some good lyrics too.

Good, on you, Clarky.   Man!   You sing about as good as your excellent play.   I can sense you were nervous, but you did it and did it well.  Find some more songs you can sing well and give then to us.  Thanks!

Crackin' acoustic cover!  You've even captured the essence of Auerbach's vocals! "Rubber Factory" is one of my fave BK's albums.

Thanks Dave, I'll see what other songs I can try.  I like singing but not very confident.  Strangely I do sing in a band but it's different with the drums and stuff banging away.

Wonderful Clarky.  You have a good voice. Great to see you “uncover” your mouth. More!

Don't it hurt so bad,
Standin' in the sun,
The bottom of your heart,
You don't love no one,

You can be,
Oh, so mean,
I just can't see,
No in-between,
You know what the sun's all about,
When the lights go out,

What a way to live,
Back of your class,
The end of the line--
You're always last,

You can be,
Oh, so mean,
I just can't see,
No in-between,
You know what the sun's all about,
When the lights go out,

See the moon,
See the stars,
From your lonely seat,
In lonely cars,

You can be,
Oh, so mean,
I just can't see,
No in-between,
You know what the sun's all about,
When the lights go out,
Lights go out,
Lights go out,
Lights go out
