Fretless 4 string with a Don Goguen pickup. Tuned GDGB. A touch of tremolo and heavy reverb to taste.

Like the sweet sound this is making.

So nice Slow.  It's nice to see this generate some discussion.  I'm in the Oily, Jim and John camp.  I'm usually thinking in terms of songs, forms and structure.  It is a real task to let it all go and improvise and something that I think takes practice just like anything else.  Good stuff!

100% with you on all you said Oily.

Playing what you feel is sooooo important. It actually means letting go, and just letting things happen. This is hard for many people to do, especially when they are learning to play. I find this soooo much easier to do with 3 and 4 strings than 6. The open tunings really help, as you get accidental drones that really contribute to the sound. And I'm not much of a blues slide player; it always impresses me when I see other people play really good slide blues. And some of it is one's musical DNA; certain things just seem like the right thing to play for me, that would literally seem like magic to you. And vice versa.

After reading some other comments I gotta add - playing what is in your head and what sometimes magically falls under your fingers is where inspiration and originality come from. I love your playing but doubt that I could play like that. I also love to listen and enjoy. Yup Maddog it transcends "time" and lifts us above our normal state of mind. And it's legal!

Simply Lovely Steve!!! Enjoy all your stuff as you well know, glad to see you Buddy! With summer coming to an end and winter knocking on the door it is certainly a "BitterSweet" time of year lol :-) Lil' joke between me and Hound folks.

I am slowly getting what and how you play Steve, I have a long way to go but it is so gratifying to have it start to somewhat resemble your music. I can sit and just noodle out at the cabin along the Missouri and totally loose track of time, I like that feeling when the clock no longer tells me what to do.

Thanks Steve!!!

I agree with the less is more working very well - and the value of John McNair's teaching DVD.

But we are all different.   I just don't 'hear' the kind of music that you or John M make in my head.   Maybe if I listened to it enough I would.  I sure like it.

Thanks John. It's funny because the old timey stuff drew me to this world, but after a year or so I just wasn't getting it as far as playing went. The "less is more simple is good " method (Thanks John McNair) really appealed to me. It's just easier for me to improv rather than trying to copy other people.

Beautiful tone and music.   Your stuff looks so easy to do, but it is not.  Must come from inside your head and soul.
