Short Diddley Bow Jam - My First Solo Build

This video is a demo of my first solo CBG build – a diddley bow I made on 12/30/15.

While I've made 2 lap diddley bows and 4 CBGs with 3 strings with my husband on the power tools and me on design, this is the first one I've made on my own (he didn’t even look over my shoulder) and first one with a round neck. The pickup is a piezo disc pickup pre-wired to a jack from cbgitty.com. The first song based on Elmore James (from Justin Johnson tutorial) was played through my Fender Mustang 1 v2 20watt modeling amp. The second ditty was played through a little battery operated Danelectro Hoodad amp.

I initially made a longer video about my diddley bow for my ‘uninitiated-to-cbgs’ friends, and you can find that on youtube (https://youtu.be/vNHkUX8UAJI) if you want or linked in my blog post here (http://www.cigarboxnation.com/profiles/blog/list?user=0vz9fbqk7719t ). I cut it down to just the playing for y’all here on Cigar Box Nation. Thanks Jim for the suggestion!

I had to turn off the Christmas tree lights while using the Mustang amp because they were causing some electromagnetic interference and creating an annoying hum on the amp.

There's no question Jim, you hit the nail on the head - I'm hooked! I made my second solo build Friday (2 days after this one!) with a magnetic rail pickup. Time for me to just play for a while and build my musical skills. :) Plus, it's back to work tomorrow...

Thanks for helping me learn the lay of the land around here!

Well alright Janis! You did it. Sounds great but now I think you might be hooked and, like a lot of us, you won't be able to stop making them! At least you have other creative pursuits but making and playing these things is just about all I know how to do!
