Thanks Richard. Strange and unique are some wonderful adjectives. By all reports the Dan Bau dates back about 1,000 years, maybe longer, and the sounds it can produce in the hands of masters are truly haunting. Sometimes I make an instrument, play it a bit, and then I'm done with it. But this thing fascinates me and now I want to get some of it's nuances figured out.

Thanks Shane. Us older chaps need to avoid ladders.

I learn something every day. I know what keeps me up at night, not ghosts, my neighbor has one of these! It might have been Yoko! Maybe red spray paint , UJ changes his tune. This is top of the leader board of strange and unique and fascinating instruments Jim! Your mind is a voyager of ideas and we all benefit. Couldn't have imagined the sound it produced! Well done all around. Not to familiar with the song, but I was humming!

Right Jim . Been up the ladders and took all the pipe from the side of the house .

But someone stole my saw . Lol

Thanks Erasmo. Yeah man, I've never met another dan bau player around here. I do know a banjo player named Dan if that counts!

Ha, what are you saying Unc? I know it looks like a sewer pipe. (it was) and I know I didn't pretty it up much, so I'm guessing it's the wonderous skill of me playing Dan Bau for exactly one hour that leads to your comment. Oh, snd thanks man!

Yup, exactly Andries! I tried four different things trying to find something stiff enough to hold string pressure and flexible enough to control. The one like in your pic looks like it takes very little effort. The masters I've listened to have total control and don't need to force it like I do.
