Hi Jim, I have a gas can Guitar I got in The Eastern Hill country with a nice flying bridge over it’s neck. I found one like it in an old house in SE Ohio when I lived there back in the late 60’s. I made a sketch of it in my journal. Then about 5 years ago I saw one just like it on eBay and bought it. I’ll take a photo of mine.

Thanks Brian. I'm a big fan of reading books for sure, but music has brought me out of dark places and, I truly believe, has saved my life! Plus, music takes us back into books and reading. My latest favorite is Shane Speal's  Making Poor Man's Guitars.

As always you deliver Jim! He’s gonna love it. Hell, I’m jealous, my dad always told me music was a waste of time & I should be reading books instead? I’ve also made some short scale instruments for gifts this year, can’t wait til’ Xmas :)

Thanks Bear and Dani. Ah, you noticed the flying bridge! I originally had the bridge placed on the neck but the tone and volume were greatly improved with this set up.As for sound hole - I often equate a tin box to a speaker which produces sound through the vibrations of the cone with no holes needed. Add to that the fact that this is for a small child and I didn't want to risk any jagged edges. I have in past put holes in tin boxes but didn't really notice a big difference in sound. Thanks much for your comment!

I reckon your friend's grandson is going to think it's Christmas. Sounds awesome, Jim, but I'm not seeing any sound holes? Are they there and I didn't see them or are there no sound holes required in this. Proper looks the business and great use of a flying bridge too.
