Two instruments at the same time is right on Jim.  The angles, speed and pressure of the bow, not to mention double stops, it's mind boggling.  Thanks for the youtube suggestion, I'll check it out...

Yeah turtlehead, it's like learning two different instruments at the same time The bow is the hard part - or is it the lack of frets? I've picked up some good tips from 1stfiddlerman on youtube who's got some very good lessons.

Thanks a bunch folks.  It took a while to be able to make any sort of musical sound out of the fiddle.  This worked out well because in this key - D - I only have to play two strings!  I'm even considering taking a few lessons to learn how to bow properly.  It's so much different than strumming a guitar...

Superb quality music and vid !  That's an outstanding first attempt - I spent about 4 years trying to learn the violin when I was a kid and it never sounded that good.
