I get nostalgic for a little place by a country river. Vocal mix not so great, but I like the CBG!

Thanks Andries! Good advice and thanks for the picture. I have a good foundation, two Lynas slides, one plastic pvc, a copper 3/4 inch couple, and a socket although that's pretty heavy. I would like a bow for Uncle's one string lap Diddley, any suggestions on how to make a homemade one? Curious about the slide on the far left. Does it vibrate? The box is a colorful way to keep your slides organized, I like! Great suggestions, much appreciated?

Jim, I was kind of wondering that after I reread your message a few times. I got it now, crystal clear. That technique makes sense, and with a lot of practice, should help my slide playing big time! Yeah, it's one thing to do it or show it in a video, but putting it into words is a challenge. It is cool we both benefit from your inner wisdom. Thanks again, I'll put your words petal to the metal!

the advantage of having more type slides you cab adapt them to diverend kind of playing, the slide box is a handy tool if your in the try out mode  fiddeling about looking for tone & feel, great to see you trow it all in there Richard!

There is Bamboo, lapsteel stick, winebottle, dunlop glass, lynas ceramics .full brass, red copper and even Bone.

Keep at it Richard. I'm not meaning to put the slide on your index finger. What I'm talking about is with slide on pinky you can drag your index sort of muting the string of unwanted notes. The cool thing about explaining is that it forces me to try and analyze exactly what I'm doing and often helps me to refine my own technique.

Wow Jim, lot of good information here! I was going to try glass, but I'm happy with Dave's' slides. Excellent points on the initial contact of slide to strings and using unwound high g string. Uncle's point seems like a good one also. I'll try using my index fInger a bit , although my pinky finger is good to use because it's short and bends in toward my other fingers, so it actually is getting used now! Too short for lead. I'm glad I asked, your slide work stands out! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain so very well what others in some how to videos I've watched don't even come close to.

I have the neck from a heavy wine bottle that I like a lot but the Dave Lynas porcelain is about the same weight. I think the meatier tone comes from a subtle combination of things. For me the hardest is the initial contact with slide and strings after fretting notes. It's something I've spent time practicing and still don't have it to my liking. Unc's tip about having a trailing finger contact the string as you slide is a good way to cut down on shrill overtones that come from the part of the string between the slide and the headstock. As a pinky slider you might try that with the index finger which is, for me, the easiest one to use. I'm not sure what strings you're using but I prefer an unwound high g string around .017 since the slide seems to have a cleaner tone that way.

Thanks Jim! I'm not fighting it as much, letting the slide do its thing. I want to replace the strings, any suggestions for a meaty lower sounding slide. These maybe a little to lightweight. I notice with my age, nostalgia only goes back about a year now Ha!

Thanks Uncle! I live within eyeshot of the ocean, but I grew up up in Oregon where mountains, rivers, and creeks are more to my liking. My wife prefers the ocean. Thanks for the tip on the slide, I'll certainly try it! Your looking good there in Maddox's picture!
