Say, Roger, I was going through your photos and saw you were using either ball or plain end strings. I just built a cookie-tin banjo, and was thinking of stringing it up with nylon uke strings. Naturally, I thought of this after the thing was built so I don't have a "proper" bridge, just a thru-neck stub sticking out from the bottom with three holes drilled and ready to receive ball end strings.

Can you show me how you are using plain strings on you builds? Thanks!

As I posted in the picture comments... I can only spend about two weeks there each year when we visit and I had to clean and move stuff around quite a bit.

But it was great working with my grandfathers and his fathers tools.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the invite. As you can see I'm new here, but already loving the photos and info. That red one is great. I did a purple one, my favorite color, its in a group pix on my page. This is addictive, I just came from a cigar store, where I get boxes. Only had one today, but sometimes there are more.
Yes you can.........Have a musical day, Gloria

Roger, if you want to build a small amp like the one John Sims built, just buy a Danelectro Honey Tone mini-amp and take the guts out of it. Then it's as simple as installing the parts back into a cigar box. You'll have to rig up a 9 volt battery holder and maybe lengthen a couple wires, but that's about it. The Honey Tone only costs about $20 + $10 for a power pack. I built one the same way, you can look in the photos on my page to see how it turned out. Hope this helps.

Beautiful banjos, Martin. A banjo is next on my list to build. Any tips on construction? What about the head itself. How is the red one attached?
