dont some sewing machines have counters?

there used to be an electric circuit counter you can get at maplins that uses a light trigger being broken to count

maybe this could be an addtion?

what about modifying this? (the in 1 direction version is even cheaper)

there was a chap on youtube who used a modified calculator to count his windings..

I need to crack this as I need a pickup winder.... now let me think......

There is no easy way to know the number of winds with this method. I was wondering about using a bicycle milometer/odometer or something and figuring out how to convert miles to winds. Or i could try working it out roughty by weight. It might be better though if i just stopped regularly to measure resistance. The first and so far only pickup I've made like this had a disappointingly low output.

I just ask myself why I turned down an old sewing machine some days ago, just because i can't sew. I have to start thinking!
