The results from my first attempt at growing Gourds, these ones are 'Kettle Gourds', and there are no prizes for guessing what they will end up as, once they finally dry out, in about 12 long months.

Thanks 'Jim', will decide what instruments to make out of them when they dry, depending on which way I cut them, some no doubt will be CBG's, and some will be Banjo's and Uke's etc; I have had a Kangaroo rawhide skin sitting in the corner for about 2 years so this will probably be used in these builds, and also on some Drums & Tambours etc; I'm always open for suggestions ????????????, I also have a small supply of smaller and different types of Gourd seeds to be planted when Spring arrives, in about 4 months..

Thanks 'Dave', it's a new learning process for me at the moment, I have read different theories on how and where to dry them, they are currently sitting upright on the roof of my work shed.

"UJ", are you calling me a "Melon Head" ?????????????? LOL {:- )

One of my Facebook friends suggested they would make good "Beer Steins", I don't think even I could finish one of the larger ones filled with "Amber Ale".

Funny, AGP.  How much they look like you.   Good luck on the drying process.  I grew some smaller ones and they kind of rotted.  Likely I did not wait a hole year.

I,ve grown these guys befor. They dry out beautiful. Light but strong. They go through a very funky faze as they dry. Look rotten and moldy. Don,t throw them out. They,ll be fine. I used poly rub on varnish on them once dry.

Nice! I've made several gourd instruments but never grew my own. Have to try it some day.
