Made a couple of years back from one of Chickenbone John's kits. Cutting the f holes in a pine box was fun. But it is loud a lot of fun.

If anyone in London is interested (although one chap travels each week from Norwich!), this is the link to the advanced course, but you should start with the beginners - unless you are an experienced woodworker. http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/courses/short/advanced-guitar-making/

Very true, Jock! I always end up taking things a stages too far. I enjoyed it so much, I signed up for the part time Guitar Making course at CASS! Here's my efforts so far, It's going to be based on a Martin 00 12th fret. Great tutors and gaining lots of knowledge and skills... I will return to building CBGs soon though - because they are so much fun. There are only two instrument making courses left in London, and the full time course at CASS is closing (part time is still going for now). It is fully subscribed and earns it's way, but there is not enthusiasm for music in education at the moment... a country run by bean counters who don't understand the value of anything.

That's a very nice piece of work, especially for a first off. starting with a kit is often a very good way in to a new hobby.

You know that this will not be the last, don't you? ;-)

Thanks for the kind comments. I traced the f holes from my wife's violin and then made a plastic template - to make sure both were the same. Then just drilled cut and filed with whatever would fit in the holes. They are tight in places to get tools in! It never occurred to me before I started how splintery this kind of box would be, a harder wood would be better if I was to try it again!
