I picked up this old tube radio a few years back, thinking i'd make an amp from it, but after tinkering for days, i could only get static from the radio, so i put it aside, and forgot about it, yesterday while having a clean out, i decided to throw it out, but decided to try it one more time, this time in my carport, Hola! clear as a bell radio, my tin shed had been the problem all along, 2 hrs later, after adding a 3 way switch and a jack, i had a nice valve amp, but a little quiet, added an inline low impedence mic amplifier and it's awesome, then added a boost pedal and even awesomerer, but the speaker won't last with the boost up high, very happy.

Thanks again Darryl. My volume pot has the switch also on the pot. However the pot has the three tabs. So, just like a guitar volume pot setup. Cool! I have a show Saturday so it will be Sunday before I can mess with it. THANKS a heap.

Dave,Looking at the pot from the rear, with tags facing down, left should be the input, middle output, and right ground, i used the pot ground on mine to the jack, also i didn't mention earlier, that the middle, [switched common] lug from the switch went to the input on the pot

Wow, thanks for the great info Darryl. I didn't disconnect the input from the radio. I should be able to figure out which lead is the input. I could add a switch after probing the volume pot? Right? I also grounded to the metal chassis, not the back of the volume pot. I'll try that too. Soon I'll try again. Thanks Darryl.

Dave, i just disconnected the input wire to the volume pot, patched in a 3 way,[that's all i had handy] with signal from radio on one leg, and signal from jack to the other, and ground from jack to ground on pot, i'm not 100% sure whether that is the best option, as the amp volume was about 1/2 the radio  volume, and  it may have missed some circuitry needed from the radio, however, the simple in line impedance matching amplifier that i use on my "induction" type pups fixed the issue very well, so i,m reasonably sure that it was just an impedance miss match, then when i added the pedal it really screams

I am impressed! I want to learn the hookups for conversion.
