Thanks for sharing your technique. I love the look. I know good tonewood is expensive. I keep finding bargains on ebay with larger lots of wood. I got 19 half Martin guitar rejects in Sitka Spruce. It will take a while to use that up. It is fabulous wood. Sometimes I just go for it and get something spectacular for about 30 bucks for two nice bookmatched pieces of Walnut or flamed Maple or such for fun building.

The soundboard is plywood sanded really well dampened to open up the grain then india ink applied with a cloth rubbed well in all surplus removed and that's what you end up with. Normally I varnish it when dry and it gives the appearance of aged wood for a low cost.

I find it very difficult to source interesting sheet timber at the right price.
