Modeled after a 30s Regal lap steel. My 19th build. Sounds great. I got the string volumes eqd. The tone pot doesn't do much but hum when you touch the shaft of it. The knob stopped that.

Hi Trev, thanks again, I think I just need to try some of these ideas and let is simmer for a bit. I just started fencing a new orchard to keep the bunnies and deer outa there. Building will have to wait till that's done. Gardening is just starting to take its due time. The flowers in the trees and the buzzin of the bees. Sweet music to me ears. I just need to get "grounded"! .... Dave

Dave, keep at it, I'll be with you all the way (don't know if thats a good or bad thing for you). You cannot build a masterpiece like that and then fail at the final hurdle. Electronics! It always is. Would you be kind enough to describe the exact proble again? Then I can take a fresh look at it. Trev

Thickwater, not a bit of change. But I'm not disheartened. With all you guys on my case, it'll get ironed out soon and I'll know how to do it right. Imagine a world of cigars and guitars....

Hey Dave and Bluesheart, just got in from the old English pub! Great night. Hope you are both OK. Are you  guys even in the same time zone in the States? What a small world. If were looking for CBG world domination then we need to stick together! Dave, if you have built five guitars with magnetic pickups and never bothered to ground them and they are all working OK. Then, I'm sorry, but you should me my teacher my friend. I hope you get to the bottom of that tone problem. When turning the knob does it not have any effect at all?

Thanks Bluesheart, in spite of its duffers electric work the thing plays great. With all Trev's advice I should be able to make it right. Maybe I'll even become a rocket scientist. Crotch rocket that is.

Oops, I hadn't read my messages Trev. We got the same idea on the metal tail gizmo. Like minded, only one is an idiot. That would be me...

Hi Trev, more good info, thanks. I think I'll fashion a tail piece addition to my rig. A small metal bar with 6 holes lined up with my wood holes and solder on a ground wire. I'll just add it between the ball ends and the wood tailpiece and ground that sucker. I have made 5 guitars with magnetic pickups and none have had the problem. Some even have metal tails or bridge plates. Guess I should go back and get em all. Wonderwhytheywork? Wow, you have been my teacher. THANKS!

Hi Dave, forgot  to mention. Yes, you got it about the hot lead extension. With piezo pickups you can generally get away without grounding your guitar. But its a must with magnetic pickups. Trev

Hi Dave, no need to drastically change anything. If you really wanted to keep it simple you could just run a wire through your ball ends and solder it to the back of your vol pot. However, for a more permanent solution I would personally get a thin strip of steel, drill six string holes into it, solder a ground wire to it (to connect to the back of your vol pot), remove your strings, thread them through your new anchor plate and then into the back of the tailpiece as is. I think that could be done with pleasing effect with very little change to the overall look of your guitar. Trev

Hope you can get the wiring straight cause that sure is one fine looking instrument!!
