Lots of first on this one - first 4 stringer, first f holes, first back of the box, first wet sanding the neck with danish oil finish (what a difference!), first with a cherry neck / the neck was one of 8 cut and milled from a cherry slab I picked out at a mill. Fingerboard is mahogany, fret dots are punched from a plastic mother of pearl guitar pick. Oak bridge, phenolic nut.

Hey Bluesheart thanks! The bench is a very early piece of woodworking before CBG consumed me. ;-)

It is beautiful. Love that bench too!

Now you got me hot to trot to build another 4 stringer - after I finish Cookie Tin Lizzie - my current build. Thanks for the advice, gents!

I use a GDGD tuning (high to low string) to play my 4 string banjos and big box guitars. I love the simple tuning which comes from 3 string Strumstick tunings.: GDG. I can play in all the keys and the bar chords with or without the slide bar. I use DAD tuning if I have a long neck (5 string banjo or plectrum banjo). That's DADA for for four string. CGC is good for very short scale guitars. Then you can have 3 major keys to play like crazy and all their minors and modals to add mood and color.

GDGB  is a lot like a 3 string GDG -  low toned....   slide or barre.    And also like a DGBD four - make finger chords with the 3 small strings - especially in the key of G.  Good deep sounds and versatile.

Thanks Uncle John - will give GDGB a shot.

I like DGBE a lot and sometimes some DGBD.  I would say keep it like it is and build another for GDGB.

Thanks Dave, Uncle John. Clean they stay.  I'm playing with DGBE standard 6 string tuning - it's interesting learning to play my 6 string songs with only 4 strings. I have also tried open tuning DGBD - it sounds sooooo sweet playing Barre chards - problem is I don't have any 4 string repertoire to play to, as opposed to all I have in my 3 string repertoire. Any guidance welcome - as I said, 4 string open tuning sounds sooooo sweet.
