I used an LM386 for a preamp and a Tape Recorder Mic picked up at a local electronics surplus store. Also added a 9v battery to power the preamp and an On/Off Switch

Oh, the local electronics store has a whole box of these mics for $3.80 apiece. Initially I thought I would remove the mic element and mount it in the box but I found it actually sounds better to leave it in the housing. I installed these in 4 of my other builds from previous years after discovering these. I do shorten the length of the Mic to fit the box though.

Thanks Bluesheart, I have been using this method for all of my builds that aren't through neck designs. So far I haven't had any problems. Below is a photo that shows the support screws through the box into the heel of the neck before adding the cross support. The cross support also gets screws into the ends through the side supports that you can't see on these pics
