This group is for discussing the basics of CBG building for newer builders - where to start, what to do, common pitfalls, tips and techniques.
Keep in mind that new builders can find other great informative articles on CBG building, as well as most of the parts you'll need, over at C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply!

Answer discovered! For now at least. I Googled open C tuning, thinking dropping the tuning down would help a little. Found a video by Neanderpaul who is also on CBN and now have it tuned CGCD# as Neanderpaul suggested. Massive difference! Dropping all of the strings down helped anyway but dropping the high pitched thinnest string down even further from standard open C has made a huge difference. Playing a bar chord at the twelth no longer makes me cringe and the sound in general, even fingerpicked is super dreamy.
Problem solved and thanks to you all.
Not a problem Thomas and thanks for explaining your comment. We all have things that get under our skin, me counted in there. I asked the question after trying to find the answer myself and just getting more and mkre confused. I genuinely didn't know the answer and knew that guys here would. I'm not afraid of breaking a few strings in trying different ones, I was more afraid of snapping the neck having seen the guitar. Someone said I'll likely never get deep tones out of a comparable ukelele length and I am happy to keep it as is now. Once the strings need replacing I'll probably stick some light or extra lights on it. Maybe try some tenor guitar strings. I never knew they even existed before someone else just commented about them. Asking the question has helped!
Anyway. I appreciate the explanation of your comment. Getting humor across online is next to impossible I think. I apologise if my own comment back was overly defensive. All's fine now I'm sure. Wanna kiss and make up? Lol
Duck, I am a stringed instrument collector who studies and practices the art of audio engineering and music production. (Among other crazy things)
Over analysis and getting highly technical are pretty deeply ingrained. I think I'll get over being looked at a little funny, as I am pretty used to it after more than a handful of decades.
No offense taken here. And yes, my post was also a bit of poking a little fun at myself anyway.
Cheers :)
Hey guys, excuse my curmudgeon coming through, sometimes I forget that my sense of humor (and sarcasm) don't translate very well on line. Between that and my enjoyment of "pulling the chain" on those who appear to get too technical for what I consider a more primitive form of instrument, it's easy to come across as a grouch. With my limited musical talents I tend to forget that more strings can make better music when I seem to have trouble carrying a tune on a diddley bow. Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa.
Fomhorach, for the safety wire (and other things, I retired as a self employed aircraft mechanic, FAA licensed A&P I.A.) my standard source of hardware and other stuff is Aircraft Spruce & Specialty Co. Here's the link to their site (at the safety wire page).

They do make Tenor guitar strings for shorter scales so you don't end up over tightening/tuning longer strings on a short git and break them.
Apologies, lowering the top two down two half tones and using string 4.
This is why whiskey and Internet are not recommended to be taken together
This is all so very complicated when it doesn't have to be.
Here's one to bump the head. I have a 19" scale 6 stringer tuned to the same notes as a normal 6 stringer and it's fine. I used the 2,3,4,5,6,7 from a seven string set. Compensation at the bridge for the bottom E is a little extreme at 7mm but I can live with it.
At 19"scale, if you want the same notes as a 25" you just drop down a string (or consider getting your desired notes from somewhere else on the fretboard using lighter strings. 1,2,3 dropping the two thinnest strings down two half tones). Sustain is shorter, and you have to consider string action for clearances. Tonal qualities change too (it isn't as rich) because of string length and the body is usually smaller.
I love shorter scale instruments :)
