Thanks for all the comments. I just wanted to do this to prove to myself I could. It's been 40 years since I did anything with electronics.
It goes without saying the personal tastes of the musician is the main ingredient when it comes to quitar amps. Size, tone, modeling, etc; are all releative and centered around the specific sound oneis trying to achieve.
Mark, I chose the 386 chip for it's simplicity. I too like the smoky amp. I based this on the 'Lil Gem from runoffgrove.com which is a variation on the smokey. I also looked at Beavis' site and his Noisy Cricket.
Bob, Being aware of Zinky's history, I considered Bruce's stuff, but wanted to stay simple for my 1st outing.
Bill, as you told me before...It's looks like you have the tube end of a CBG Amp Build well in hand. And no heat sink needed? I am impressed. Nice job on the whole project and presentation... I likey. BTW, have you looked at the tube version of the Noisy Cricket?
Sam
More thoughts on your HF Amp. The little speaker may just be the ticket of a Smoky Amp build. The plans are all around and it take 3 components plus your plug and battery. An 8 pin 386 chip and 2 each 47-220 uF caps
(my understanding is the higher the Cap value the more the bass comes through). I have what I need to build the Smoky myself but no speaker for it so I will give that a try with mine and let you know how it goes.
JonBouye,
Thanks!!! I have tab'd the page and it looks perfect for the point I am in my adventure in amp building... It looks like it will give me a balance of learning and doing resources....
the best,
Sam
Sam,
Here's a link to Rod Elliott with Elliott Sound Products. He has some excellent material on audio design, especially his piece on guitar amps. It should provide plenty of reading material while you are convalessing. Hope it helps.
