Have you guys saw this?

Has anyone tried it?

Here's the website.

From what I've been reading about in different places, it takes a very sensitive diode to make this happen or the ability to vary the voltage going into a non sensitive diode until you hit the sweet spot.

Another iffy diagram

Here's how I'm going to try it out

I saw them on fleebay. I posted it. I got the wrong ones then I found other ones that sayed they would work as 'fuzz mods'.

Can't find that item

Your probably right.

I thin it's gonna be good if we can find it how this might work and get it out as a good mod in CBGs for piezos.

It just might add a bit of metal to the folk ideology

The real Black Ice that I bought and installed in my guitar years ago worked very good. the pickups were bridge - HB 11k, middle - single 5.8k and neck - single 5.2k. Now it resides in a tin as a effect pedal and I've played every thing I have through it without issue. However, I think it works better in the guitar without a tone cap in play because the pedal performed better on gits without a tone circuit than it did on gits with a tone circuit.

I guess not all DIY hacks are created equal.

Is that you done? Or is that v1?

I think I will mess about with this for a while..

We await the results of v2

You need hot pick-ups for this to work.
8.4K ohms is not power or even voltage, it depends on the number of turns of wire the pickup has. More winding means more resistance (ohms).
but it also means more output voltage.
Like overwound pickups which are hotter. eg Texas Special pickups
I tried it quite some time ago and it wasn't worth it.
But I don't remember what I used to try it...

Not to be a pendantic descriptionist but...

technically black ice is not overdrive, its a clip effect, but with the same results, the nice pretty rounded tips of the sine wave are clipped flat giving the pre-amp overdriving the amp sound.

The Black Ice is supposed to replace the tone cap, so wiring this without the volume and tone pots may not work as well as it would with those pots. You may want to have a volume at least.

You may want to try it both ways before making final judgement. There was a difference between the on board guitar version without a tone cap and the pedal version with the in place tone cap. The pedal version sounds better on guitars without a tone cap than with.

I made a scan of the wiring for the Black Ice if that helps. You can wire a pot as a drive/level as well.

Ooh.. Thanks for those.

I figure that electronically it's possible. It is just a matter of testing and figuring out which input is best for which set and values of the components in the device.

This one is trial and error I believe. Find components that work together.
