Okay, there are no rules, but there should be some etiquette, manners, respect and thinking before we do something.  And yes, I fail at this from time to time.

I am annoyed when someone posts more than a couple videos at once.   Doing so prematurely knocks other people off the video section of the home page. Once off the main page, many people never look to see them.  Not cool.  People want there efforts to have an opportunity to be noticed.

Kind of the same thing when some posts large numbers of photos at  once.

What do you think on this?   What have you got to say on related matters?

I say.... good luck with that! We had exactly the same discussion 2 years ago, summer of '09, after enduring 30+ pics of the same guitar over and over again.... this is the back, this is the back from 2 degrees further north, this is the back in mono etc etc. BORING. Choose the best few pictures (or videos), post them, be proud.

By the way, I dont think posting videos should be about quality - everyone should post as its good for the confidence and great to log your progress - but they should be about variety. If all of your vids are the same, just 15 takes, we dont need to see them all. If you have 15 videos about different aspects of building or playing different styles, I wanna see them!

Peace out.

Great point Roosterman, we dont want to discourage anyone from posting.

Right on, John.

Hi Uncle John.

You make a very good point. Let's hope people read your message and take notice. I also think it goes agains the mass poster. If I see many videos from one person I am unlikely to leave comments on all of them. I may not even watch all of them. By spreading them out a bit I think that they would each get more attention, thereby better rewarding some talented players.

Yep on that Mark.

Roosterman, this problem won't go away, but maybe we can help spread the word.  I am currently working on my 9th video in a planned series of 10 on this topic and will post them any day now.

I hear ya.  I admit I am bad about checking videos, but do check out pics every day and get the same thing some times.

As far as video uploads, I will only do one to sound check the build and get suggestions from everyone.. that's usually one a month or two tops.  The less I subject everyone to this mug, the better!

c'mon mate, this is a social network site. if someone wants to post 10 vids or maybe 30 pics of their new guitar then thats cool - there is a 'videos' tab to check out vids. theres room enough for everyone on the nation - we make videos for fun, not for how many 'hits' we get - its all about the music after all
bump
yall want sum chezz to go with all that wine
@ Merle, Bone and Ted:  Bump back and some nice feta would be nice.
I will send a message to Ning support and see if they have any suggestions.

Thats an interesting point and opens the door to several other questions for me.

Obviously, a video/pics posted in a discusion within a group isnt also posted to the public videos/pics section, so you can target a specific audience that way. But if you post to "my videos/pics" on your home page it does share them on the home page/public display area. But that doesnt directly "fix" the situation thats been being discussed here.

Also, I have discovered you can post audio tracks similarly, that play or accessed only on your personal page, or within the public player. I havent had occasion to mess with that yet.

An additional question/note is that I dont know who is notified when for instance you start a new discussion in a group. The group members? Your "friends"? No one? I know there are settings that are tweakable for some of this, but it often isnt clear.

I think the core of the problem is that the Ning software program was designed for a bit different intended use than we have adapted it into. And the lack of instructions/information aggravates the problem.

Most forums and discussion group sites have a new user thread or something along the lines of a "read this first/FAQ" guide to new users. Maybe something along these lines would help.

That said, I would like to say something about and to the Cigar Box Nation group. I read other forums and discussion groups regularly on various topics of interest. Nearly every one has a few regular participants who choose to bring negativity, constant meaningless debate and mean spirited commentary into endless discussions on every on and off topic subject imagineable. It ruins the utility of the site for many other users who just want to learn and share the joy of the subject at hand. I have occasionally feared that the rapid growth of CBN would cause it to become another one of those sites. Thankfully it has remained a relatively civil, fun and generously sharing environment. I want to thank each person who reads this for their part in that and express my strongest hopes and wishes that it remains that way!

Thank you all!

Mark
