Just finished my first build! Started with a less desireable (painted white) box and sanded it down, thinking my first was gonna end up getting messed up during process. I wish I would have just used a better box anyway. It turned out better than I thought though. Learned many things. Thanks goes to everyone in "The Nation" for advise, help and most of all INSPIRATION! I've already got a couple more started and ideas for enough to keep me busy for years!

For a first build, that looks awesome!!! Heck, for ANY build that looks awesome!! Nice job.
Very nice job, not sure what is wrong with that box, it looks great, keep it up.
I've got to agree with Michael about the box. Do you have any of the logos that everyone has? No. Does everyone else have a beautiful flamed top like that? They probably don't know. Great job!
Great job, hope you have lots of fun playing the bejeezus out of that baby
NIIIIIIIICE work, nice box, and WHAT A VIEW! CHEERS!
Looks awesome for a first build, any problems doing that scarf joint? Are those acoustic strings? I heard they sound better than electric strings even with a magnetic pickup.

Brett
Ya, a little trouble with the scarf joint. My table saw is out of commision right now so I made a jig for my (power) mitre saw. Worked OK for the one in the picture, but I was working on 4 necks the other day and the saw was kicking the piece out of the saw into the rafters! I've stopped doing it that way. Also when I was clamping it together it was sliding all over the place. Since then I've seen some good pictures of ways to prevent that.
Yes those are acoustic strings. Just cheap ones that I got at Wal-Mart.

Great job. There's nothing wrong with that box. The branch/tree design is very nice. Congratulations. Now you're hooked! John D
Nice job! The box looks great, and I like the look of the neck too.
Here is a trick I use for sharf joints slipping around. Staying away from the edges lightly sprinkle some play sand on your glueing area.Easy does it. You don't want sand where you may file sand through. As you clamp the sand will grip and bite into the two sufaces and stop shifting. Wipe off the glue that squeezes out.

Having experimented using bronze wound strings with magnetic pickups I don't hear the low end with bronze. Wimpy sounding. Doesn't do it for me. All the pickup is sensing is the steel core. Each to their own I guess. What makes the world go round.

very cool trick, i'll be using that one. I had a gibson epoch that all i used on it were bronze; gave a muted type of warm sound.
And sodbrother, that is a cool 1st build, kudos.
