I recently got one of these mini amps, but using the piezo pickups, it only works if I set it to overdrive. The regular setting produces no sound to speak of.

Does it need a pre-amp, or am I just expecting too much?

I had one worked fine on both with out a pre amp problem may be specific to just ur amp or just ur piezo but like i said mine worked fine as a matter of fact a hacked it and put it in a punch box and ended up selling it with a matching punch 4 string,
Hmmm...well I guess I have to mess with it some more then....I dunno...
Yep, I agree with surfy - Iv used those little amps before and they should work fine on all settings.

You do have to have the vol cranked right up to hear much on the clean channel though.....
Hi Iggy,

I have had similar miniamps (cheap copy) before and found them to have poor volume on a clean setting. This is a common complaint about the MS2 - a large review database can be found here:

Someone has commented (and I found it also) that trying a new battery can improve the sound (until the battery runs down a bit).
You could try adding another piezo disc to your guitar circuit to see if it makes a difference (cheaper option than adding a preamp).

Regards,
David
Well David, you hit the nail on the head. Even though it was a brand new battery, I plugged in my DC adapter and I got all kinds of sounds out of it. I can't crank it up on OD now without it feeding back.

Thanks for the tip!!!
Dude! get a Roland micro cube for under a hundred bucks. It sounds awesome, loud and has great fearures.
I agree with Max Georgia, since I have tryed lots of miniamps, I cana only recomend the Roland Micro Cube. It can be battery operated as well as mains, it uses COSM technology that sounds amazing, has severeal amps models that my suit every style. Haven´t tryed yet but maybe would be nice to have an external speaker outbput to test with a 1 x 12" cabinet.
