I built a long box CBG and it looks awesome......Until I place the bridge on it.  With the long box, if I follow scale, the bridge falls in the middle of the box. Can I move the bridge farther back say 3 or so inches and what would the consequences be?

Hi, it would play out of tune unless you moved the neck back also, or changed the scale length. And if you have braced the top inside, that brace may not be in the best place.

Try a shorter box & save the long box for a short scale bass or baritone? Of course you would have to make another neck. If the bridge is not where it’s supposed to be it’ll never be right, nor would it sound good, good luck

If it's a fretless you can put the bridge wherever you want. You may need to change to different  string gauges to accommodate the longer scale though.

If it's fretted already then the bridge position has to match the scale length that it it was fretted for. On the plus side though the middle of the box should give you better volume and maybe tone.

A bridge that closer to the center of the box will have better acoustical sound and often better sustain. However, that isn't always a bad thing. If your git is fretless, it doesn't matter.

What scale is it?  Is it Fretless?   What gauge Strings are you using?
