Hi, this is one of the most useful time saving tools I have purchased in a long time, and it was only around $50au.
When gluing or applying lacquer to an instrument under repair, I always like to have it at the best angle to aid glue flow, clamping, and for best light positioning. This vice does it all.

The vice is well made, strong and very stable when clamped on the bench. Importantly it lends itself to a whole range of jigs, adaptors, and special fittings, the more I use it the more it gets modified.

The photos show actual repair jobs in progress. The violin repair is using the original jaws, in the photos you can see some of the modifications. Different instruments and/or tasks require different jaws, these are kept in a box on the side of the bench for quick and easy access.

Cheers Taff

Dam you another tool to add to my endless list, will never stop? But it does look useful.

Nice! That’s how to maximize!! I would buy that, did I mention Home Depot is 0.8 of a mile from my house :)

That vice looks real handy with the ball joint. I recently bought a clamp on vice from harbor freight that I really like. I like to be able to use the vice wherever I am working at. I have not seen that model you have before.

Hi again. Here are a couple of other adaptions I have added.
• I removed the brass bolts that hold the removable jaws and replaced them with steel rods, this enables quick swapping over.
• The extra holes in the top of the fixed jaws allow the removable jaws to swivel. This is handy when holding tapered work like necks.
• I Have that block permanently bolted to the bench to allow me to quickly reposition the vice for even more versatility. It will also rotate 360 deg. Also useful if the front of the bench is too thick/deep for the vice to clamp on to.

Clever!
