2011 Cigar Box Guitar Builders Challenge

We are pleased to announce the 2011 Cigar Box Guitar Builders Challenge!

The contest begins immediately. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2011. A winner will be announced the first part of January, 2012.

Unlike previous contests, there is no theme this time. It is simply Cigar Box Guitars. Note that any stringed instrument will qualify as a "guitar", so you can make a uke, dulcimer, lap steel, bass, whatever stringed instrument suits your fancy.

We will have some great prizes too, more to follow...

Contest Rules:

Each submission shall be an instrument of the builder's own construction and overall design.

The instrument shall prominently and visibly feature a cigar box in the design.

Each builder will submit up to five pictures of their creation.

Entries must be submitted no later than December 31, 2011.

Builders will post the pictures of their instruments in the "Contest Submission Thread."

Builders should include descriptions of their work, including any technical details such as features, materials used, or any other information they feel would assist the judges in reviewing the submission.

A panel of judges will review the pictures and select a winner.

The decision of the judges is final.

*** 11/20/11: Please limit your entries to one submission per person. ***

Getting a late start, but I am in!

I'm in. See my entry in the main discussion.

I'm out. My Father has been in and out of the hospital this month, and then I came down sick and cannot complete my entry in time. An unheated shop is no place to be with walking pneumonia.

Rats. I really like and enjoy these contests.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone.

Brian Hunt.

Sorry Brian, I hope you and your father get well soon!

Merry Christmas!

Thanks Dan.

My father's problems go back to being 10 with scarlet fever and getting a damaged heart valve. I don't know what's going to kill him first, the heart or all the stupid medical tests that involve dye that my father is allergic to.

As for me, it is just bad timing, my kid manages to give me a doozy every winter that takes a couple of weeks to recover from. Walking pnemonia is often the end result since I am stubborn and won't slow down until I have no other choice.

Merry Christmas

*** There are only a few more days left to get your submissions turned in! You have until midnight on December 31st. ***

Hey, this oughta bring a lotta cool stuff to light (:>

I've got a recently completed CB dulcimer that I'm pretty proud of to throw in the pot.

Hoping I can still pull this off.  My two Christmas builds went off to a local artist for some custom paint and ended up not making it back for Christmas :(  Now I'm just hoping they make it back in time for the contest.  If not I'll have to enter something I built for last Christmas I guess....

Spidey box was salvaged from a jack in the box. Take notice on the third pic there is the red crank handle the runs the spiderman jack in the box themesong  from back in the day.

I thought the "Punch" box was most fitting for our masked crime fighting friend.

Oak through neck design with a unique sound hole being in the upper right corner. You will notice the illumination in the picture due to the fact the back of the hole is lined with high grade reflective tape. You may also notice on the tape just a glimpse of a spidey leg That is a kids temp tattoo over top of the reflective tape. Spidey in 3d on the top plus notice the bridge area where it tells the tale of Peter Parker after getting bit feeling a little funny.

Thanks for checking it out!!!!
